Prior to founding Bellview Associates, Ms. Scherbel was a Managing Director of Merrill Lynch Investment Banking, heading its Employee Benefit Advisory Group, which developed and implemented innovative solutions to optimize funding strategies for client employee benefit obligations. Ms. Scherbel is one of the country’s leading authorities on leveraged ESOPs and related transactions, having designed and implemented innovative benefit funding strategies for dozens of major corporations, including significant assignments for General Motors, Procter & Gamble, Occidental Petroleum and Tribune Company. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Susan was a corporate tax attorney at the New York firm of Hughes, Hubbard & Reed after previously serving as advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Treasury for Tax Policy at the U. S. Department of the Treasury.
Ms. Scherbel began her career with Merrill Lynch in 1989. She received a BA degree from Harvard University and JD/LLM (Master's of Tax) from Georgetown University.
Ms. Scherbel was a Board member and Chairman of the Governance Committee for the wholly ESOP-owned company, Appleton Papers, Inc. for 10 years (2001-2011). Since relocating to Maine, Ms. Scherbel has implemented numerous ESOP transactions and has worked on various transactions for Maine companies.
Ms. Scherbel is an attorney licensed in Washington, D.C. and Maine.
Prior to founding Bellview Associates, Mr. Jackson was a Managing Director of Merrill Lynch Investment Banking with senior responsibility for the corporate finance activities of its Industrial Group in the Midwest. In addition, during his more than 17 years at Merrill Lynch he helped found the firm’s fixed income capital markets new issue desk; was one of the firm’s preeminent authorities on new and complex securities transactions (including LYONs, PRIDEs and PUMAs); sat on the Equity Commitment Committee, which had responsibility for approval of all public equity financing transactions of the firm; and sat on the Corporate Finance Committee of the Investment Banking Group, which had responsibility for: (i) establishing policy for securities transaction execution, (ii) development of marketing strategies for advisory and securities transaction solicitation, and (iii) new product development, among others.
As the senior corporate finance specialist for the Midwest, Mr. Jackson had responsibility for securities transaction and advisory solicitation and execution in that region. Mr. Jackson’s extensive transaction experience includes: (i) investment grade and high yield debt and preferred stock offerings; (ii) secondary and initial public common stock offerings; (iii) convertible securities offerings, including traditional convertibles, exchangeables, LYONs, and mandatorily convertible securities; (iv) strategic assignments, including acquisitions, divestitures, spin-offs, joint ventures, fairness opinions and valuations, among others; and (v) a variety of specialized financial advisory assignments.
Mr. Jackson joined Merrill Lynch upon its acquisition of Becker Paribas in 1984, having begun his career with Becker in 1978. He received a BS degree from The University of Illinois and an MBA from The University of Chicago.
Mr. Haskell is an executive with over 25 years of experience in creating and building technology companies. As an entrepreneur, Mr. Haskell has co-founded more than a dozen companies – six of which were successfully launched as public companies in the US and Europe. Mr. Haskell’s experience reflects a combination of executive management, private equity investment and company creation.
Mr. Haskell was also part of the early management team at Internet Capital Group (NASDAQ: ICGE) where he served as Managing Director of Operations. In 2005, Mr. Haskell assumed the role of CEO of AgCert International, PLC (LSE: AGC) until its sale in 2008. AgCert's primary business was in the development of large carbon mitigation projects resulting in the creation of carbon offset credits. AgCert developed over 700 projects worldwide during Mr. Haskell's tenure.
Previously, Mr. Haskell spent over a decade in various technical and management roles in private industry — principally in the national intelligence and defense sectors. In the early 1990's, Mr. Haskell also led two successful turnarounds of private companies.
Over the past two decades, Mr. Haskell has served as a Director of 15 private and public company in North America, Europe and Australia. Mr. Haskell earned degrees in engineering and applied mathematics from Iowa State University.
Prior to joining Bellview Associates, Richard worked as an investment associate at Bridgewater Associates. In addition, he co-founded a startup in the financial services industry focusing on delivering high-speed market data. While enrolled at The George Washington University, he co-founded the George Washington Student Investment Club and managed their equity portfolio. He graduated in 2015 with a degree in finance.
